SOI stands for Integral Operating System. In an information network, the operating system is the infrastructure that allows the operation of various software programs. We use the Integral Operating System, SOI, as another name for the Integral Map. The point is simply this: if you use any “software” in your life – be it professional, sports or social life – of course you will prefer to use the best operating system available, and SOI fulfills that requirement. By touching all the bases, it allows the most efficient programs to be used. This is just another way of expressing the comprehensive and inclusive nature of the Integral Model.
Let’s also explore what is perhaps the most important way to use the Integral map or Operating System. Since it can be used to help index any activity – from arts, dance, business, psychology and politics to ecology and spirituality – the Integral Operating System makes it possible for each of these domains to communicate with the others. If they use this operating system, businesses have terminology with which to communicate fully with ecology, which can communicate with the arts, which, in turn, can communicate with law, and that with poetry, education, medicine and spirituality. In the history of mankind, this has never happened before.
Using the Integral Approach – using an Integral Map or Integral Operating System – we can dramatically facilitate and accelerate interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary knowledge, thereby creating the first true integral learning community: the Integral University, and with regard to religion and spirituality, the use of the Integral Approach made possible the creation of the Integral Spiritual Center, where some of the most important spiritual teachers in the world, from all major religious traditions, gathered, not only to listen to each other, but also to “teach the ”, which resulted in one of the most extraordinary learning events ever imagined. We’ll come back later about this important community and how you could join it if you want to.
It all starts, however, with these five elements that already exist within the scope of your own consciousness.
